Uganda Women’s Network has launched a campaign dubbed legal frameworks to promote women’s rights in Mbale City that will see several institutions within the Elgon region join hands in the fight against discrimination of women and girl children.
The resolution was reached during an event held at Wash and Wills hotel on Friday 18 November 2022 where different cultural and political leaders raised their concerns about the different forms of maltreatment and discrimination many women and girls are exposed to within the region.
The executive director UWONET Mrs Rita Acito-Lakor called upon the leaders at different levels to take a firm stand against cultural practices that demean the nature of girls hence exposing them to abuse and emphasized the need to push for equality to allow them live a meaningful and purposeful life.
Mbale RDC Mrs Asumin Nasike vowed to put in place all measures aimed at fighting different vices within culture that have continued to make it harder for women to attain equality and to achieve their goals.
