Over 300 families in Mbale City have recieved land titles.

Over 300 families in Mbale slum areas have recieved land titiles.
The Minister of lands ,housing and urban development Ms Judith Nabakooba while officiating the give away said the move is championed by the government to improve slum areas in uganda.

” In 2008 government approved a plan to upgrade all slum areas in uganda begining with the issuing of land titiles to people living in those areas ,Nabakooba said.

The minister also said the move will help protect the urban poor from land grabbers who have become a problem.

Nabakooba made the remarks during a land title give away ceremony  in namatala nyanzi cell, industrial division,mbale city yesterday 06th/Oct/2022.

Nambozo Sarah the coodinator national slum dwellers federation of uganda -NSDFU, said the urban poor are most neglected and disadvantaged people in uganda, adding that giving them land titiles in the first step towards solving their problems.

” we believe that the lives of these peoople can be transformed if we put an effort in doing so ”she said.

Neumbe mariam, one of the area residents who recived her land titile was overjoyed saying she is nolonger worrried about land grabbers.

Mbale Resident City Commisioner Ahamad Washaki said those who have recieved their land titiles should should keep them safe and secure at all times .

Mbale City is the first in the country to issue land titles to the urban poor .Most of those who recieved their land titiles were women.
