People who were displaced by floods at Doho Ward, Industrial City Division in Mbale City have called upon Mbale city authorities to improve on drainage system as a way of averting future floods in their area.

The residents made this call over the weekend while receiving relief items donated by AWYAD (African women and youth action for development) a non-government organization.

AWYAD donated 4,000 iron sheets to all affected families at Mbale city and other items like mattresses, blankets, and jerry cans.

According to Agatha Nabulwala and Juma Wadenga, some of the affected victims from Mosque Cell, Doho Ward, Industrial City Division all water channels in their area are blocked.

Yusufu Belali, the LCII chairperson of Doho ward says that they have raised that matter with Mbale city but so far no response has been received.

Stephen Bwayo, the executive director of African women and youth action for development says that they want people who were displaced by floods to use the donated items as they wait for government to come up with a permanent solution.

Ahamad Washaki the Mbale Resident City Commissioner has said that he is going to share that idea of opening up blocked water channels in Doho and the entire city such that they can allow free movement of water during rainy seasons with the City authorities.
