Mbale City Motorcyclists Reject Proposal to Pay Shs40,000

By Melanie Aanyu,

Motorcyclists in Mbale City have rejected a proposal to pay Forty Thousand Shillings allegedly sought for by the Mayor of Industrial City Division Muhamood Masaba and the chairperson Mbale City Operators and Riders Association.

The Cyclists claim that President Museveni said they shouldn’t be charged for their operations, while others say they have no idea what the money will be used for.

Saulo Bwayo, a boda boda Cyclist based in Mbale City said they are not ready to pay the said money for registration effective 1st June,2022, because it is a lot of money.

The Mbale City Operators and Riders Association Spokesperson, Badiru, said it would have been better for them to sensitize riders on how the money is going to be spent other than ambushing them.

Meanwhile Musa Kasajja, the speaker of Industrial City Division, says, the forty thousand shillings is intended to cater for parking yards and security lights and he gave examples of the cities that are already paying for instance Kampala and Fort Portal, among others and also disputed the allegation that this was an initiative of the Industrial Division Mayor but rather a Mbale city and country wide initiative.
