Mbale Central Market to Conduct Fresh Elections

By Melanie Aanyu,

A new date has been set to elect a new executive by Mbale Central Market Vendors Interim Leadership.

The date was agreed upon following a consultative meeting held yesterday (Wednesday) at the Market offices ahead of elections slated for 12th July, 2022.

A few months back the Executive of Mbale Central Market forced its then chairperson, Ayubu Madoi to step down to pave way for investigations into allegations of financial impropriety, lack of transparency, mismanagement of affairs of the market, abuse of office and overstaying in office.

Madoi’s three year term of office, which began in 2015 expired in 2018. However, no elections have since been held to either renew his mandate or elect new leaders.

Since then the market has been led by the interim leadership under Perez Wambede as the chairperson and Wafuba Muhammad as the vice chairperson as they prepare for fresh elections.
