Police in Soroti has arrested four officials of Global Alliance for allegedly extorting money from residents in the guise of offering them jobs.
The group comprising Aziz Simon Enock Edwo from Serere district, Edward Atinyi from Mbarara, William Emagu from Kaberamaido and Fiona Nakato Adyeeri from Masindi district were arrested with 30 people whom they had reportedly recruited into their business.
The arrests were carried out after intelligence allowed the police to mount an operation in Atooti area, Soroti East Division within Soroti City on Wednesday September 22-2022.
According to the police, the group had recruited people from Busoga, Lira, Soroti, Pallisa and other places within the country under the guise of offering them well-paying jobs at a fee. They were found undergoing training for the said jobs.
The Global Alliance company operates through a network of agents recruited in different parts of the country. Under their arrangement, the company claims that one gains points which translates into cash by recruiting others to join the business.
It is reported that under the Global Alliance scheme, each of the new recruits pays between 900,000 and 1.3 million Shillings to join the network.
According to Oscar Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, the arrests were conducted to prevent the unsuspecting recruits from being conned of their hard earned monies, or trafficked for the benefit of unscrupulous persons.
This is the second time in less than four months that police in Soroti have arrested Global Alliance workers.
