Fire this morning (Wednesday) gutted several lockup shops in Mbale City garage destroying property worth millions of Shillings.
Yusufu Wakibi, one of the affected operators in the garage, says that the fire gutted more than 50 lockup shops. He said the fire started from an electrical short circuit from one of their neighbor’s shops at about 10 am.
Rashid Kato, another affected trader urged Mbale city authorities to come up with a permanent solution to stop the endless fires in Mbale garage.
Ahamada Washaki, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner, says that they intend to find a permanent solution to end the recurring fires.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region police spokesperson declined to comment, saying they were still compiling information on the fire.
In May this year ,fire gutted the same garage leading to several traders counting losses.
